Weekly maintenance classes will continue throughout the winter.
Whether you ride a little or a lot during the winter, the season predicates a different approach to bicycle maintenance. It's a very sad thing to reach mid-March's (sometimes) warmer conditions only to discover that your bottom bracket clicks, your chain is frozen, and your headset talks back to you.
In this class, you will learn some preventive measures to avoid classic winter nightmares; how to prepare your bike for ice/rain; how to clean your bike after a winter ride; how to prevent oxidation/rust; how to deal with salt and sand; what tires to ride, and at what pressures; how to maintain your bike if you ride indoors; how and when to overhaul your bike after the winter. We will also look at different approaches to cleaning and lubricating the spendy parts of your drivetrain and bearing surfaces.
There will be some degree of hands on participation, depending on the number of attendees.
We will talk about what sorts of things riders should be expected to do themselves, and what sorts of problems should be passed over to a professional mechanic.
