No, this isn't about trying, after having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, to carry any message to alcoholics, or to practice any principles in all our affairs.
It's about trying to ride to Three Floyds every month this year.
We start by taking the lakefront trail south from the Clock Tower. You can join up anywhere along the trail. Just let me know where so we can look for you.
New beers since last time: Royal Brat, an extremely quaffable, severely mellow, aggressively tender, and belligerently sessionable English-Style Best Bitter; Immutable Dusk, a Cascadian Dusky Ale as unwavering in its beguiling flavor as its namesake; and Level Eater, a dark Dwarven session ale brewed with experimental hops, suitable for hoisting in the best of ale horns.
45 miles total if you take the Metra back, 70 if you ride both ways. 13-16 mph. We don't make many stops. We don't always stay together. My goal is to get there before they open (at noon), so we don't have to wait as long to get in (it's the second-best brewery in the world, so sometimes there's a line). Returning, there's no hurry. Bring money, a lock, lights since it's the shortest day of the year, water and snacks to have en route, and panniers for beer you can't get in Chicago.
Online resources: Google map, cue sheet, Metra schedule, Metra rules, and, to save us all a minute at the start, the nifty online CCC waiver.

the ride down was very nice. 3F to FS in the rain i wouldn't exactly call nice. caught the 4:10 train, so Millennium Station @ 4:58.
forgot to mention a first in all my years of riding there. going down ave o, i thought, this is going too smoothly, i bet i run into a train. and sure enough, when i get closer i see the lights flashing and the gates down. and then when i get even closer the end of the train passes, the gates go up, and it's clear sailing again.
Congratulations on a successful 12th Step!
eerily beautiful fog on the way down, mid-30s, not a drop of rain. so quiet i could hear the power lines sizzle. tailwind, no rest stops, got there early, killed some time at white castle. just a short line at 3F. started to get cold, went into the vestibule to warm up, and they let me in. Enjoyed the Level Eater, the shrimp and corn fritters with cholula aioli, mustard greens, and pok pok, the roasted squash, truffle oil, and fried sage pizza, and especially the Herr Frederiksen Væsel Brunch. rain but no ice on the way of FS. liked their Big Papa a lot. got a friendly metra conductor. celebrating now with a Hair of the Dog Fred. hope to see you all next year!
Yeah, I had a hard time getting motivated this morning for this ride
I'm out as well guys. I'd be on slick tires and I have no idea how well the roads we'd be on are salted.
ok, doesn't look too bad outside. right now. will get dressed and get out there and see what the day has in store for us.
