OK, not everyone loves Three Floyds. Different spokes for different folks! This year, you have the option of going to Flossmoor Station instead. (It remains an option to go to Flossmoor Station in addition.)
We depart Daley Plaza at 9:00 AM and collect riders at Promontory Point at 9:45 AM. We stay together (more or less) down to I-80, then split up into Three Floyds and Flossmoor Station groups. The goal of the Three Floyds group will be to get to Three Floyds by noon, when they open, and not have to wait outside.
Neither snow nor rain nor sleet nor gloom of night stays these couriers (and other riders) from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. Depending on the weather, however, returning from our rounds via Metra from Flossmoor Station is sometimes a very attractive option. Total distance: Three Floyds round trip: 60 miles, Three Floyds and Flossmoor Station one-way 40 miles, Flossmoor Station one-way 35 miles. Here’s a link to the routes (there may be adjustments if it snows).
We ask that you RSVP if attending.
The fine print: There is no support vehicle. You are responsible for yourself. The pace is 12-16 mph with a short break at Wolf Lake. Mid January weather may be extreme. Be prepared for cold as well as flats/mechanical problems.
Checklist:
Growler
Snacks
Lights
Lock
Pump, tube, tools
Extra layers of clothing (more than you expect to use)
Money
The inaugural Three Floyds ride was conceived and organized by Mark Sinclair and took place on January 14, 2006. As many of you know, Mark died on April 14 of that year, at age 34, a few days after suffering a brain aneurysm. It was Mark’s hope that it would become an annual event.
Thanks,
Bob and Kevin

If we end up with an extended wait in the FFF I will commit to having a flask of whiskey available to keep everyone warm. Afterward I will be heading to Flossmoor for a quick beer and a Metra back to the city as I believe that Flossmoor is the most reasonable Metra back into the city.
This should be a good time!
Bob prefers Three Floyds' food and (I think) their beer selection. I like Flossmoor Station for its food, beer selection, lack of attitude, and superior ability to accommodate an influx of a dozen or more bikers on a Saturday afternoon. If there are enough riders who want to go to Flossmoor (defined as more than just me) without first going to FFF, the ride will split at about I-80 and I'll take the group straight to Flossmoor Station. If everyone wants to go to FFF, we'll all go to FFF, until, after standing in the freezing rain for 45 minutes or so waiting to be seated, some of us ride the 10 miles from FFF to Flossmoor. Hope that helps.
I'm on the fence for this one, I haven't done much riding lately, so I'm concerned about keeping up pace in the cold.
Ed, sorry about the Google Map not starting at the very beginning. Hope it's clear now.
Looking forward to it.
Most of the riders depart from Daley Plaza at 9:00 am and ride the Lakefront path to Promontory Point (in Hyde Park) at ~9:45 am, where the ride will wait for 10 minutes or so for other riders to join for the trip to Munster and/or Flossmoor.
Considering this for the first time, but got a question. You say it will start at Daley Plaza, then 'collect riders' at Promontory Point, and the Google Map route starts by South Shore Golf Course. I'm confused as to where I would want to be and when?
A little publicity can't hurt. Well done, Bob!
Chicagoist called, and listed us, pretty neat!
for a pair of growlers, maybe a pair of panniers? so you're not unbalanced.
