Description

At the beginning of summer, there were 11 Dog N Suds in the US. When I called this week they were down to 8. Sure, they aren't Weiner's Circle or Donald's Beef... But they are a rapidly vanishing slice of Americana.

We are taking the 8:35 METRA from Union Station to Fox Lake. Then it is about ~8 miles of road riding on Rt. 12 to the Dog N Suds in Richmond. After a root beer we will dip our tires, for a moment, into the Land of Cheese where The Prairie Trail will take us over Fall-tinted hill-and-dale. The Prarie Trail is one of Chicagolands most lovely and most challenging rides.

Expect a variety of riding surfaces: road, crushed limestone and mostly paved bike paths. For Illinois?.. There are gigantic hills.

This is a social ride with a light-hearted pace and many scenic rest stops.

Less Train/miles option? Meet us at Dog N Suds at ~11am. We will need to leave by noon-ish.

we'll round out the 50 with a must-see side trip to Glacial Park's oak hickory savanna... Near the shores of the mighty Nippersink...
