Description

There's been a ride to the Three Floyds brew pub in Munster, IN, every January since 2006, and the beer is great ("there are few places more exciting from a beer lover’s perspective", says the NY Times), and the food, too, but January weather, ugh! We'll leave the clock tower at 10, pick up South Siders at the 31st Street beach house at 10:45, take a short break at Wolf Lake, have lunch at Three Floyds, and return. Those who are interested may want to stay for the brewery tour at 3. Going, we'll take the Daniel Burnham Centennial Century route, coming back, the traditional winter route. (A quick-and-easy alternative way back: ride just 10 miles to Flossmoor Station and hop the Metra.) This will be a "tour" ride with few stops. We won't necessarily stay together. Faster riders may go ahead, and slower riders may drop back. It's probably better if we all don't all arrive and try to order at the same time, anyway. Bring money, a lock, snacks to have en route, and panniers for beer you can't get in Chicago. Anyone interested is more than welcome to meet us at the brew pub even if they don't care to participate in the bike ride. The inaugural Three Floyds ride, on January 14, 2006, was conceived and organized by Mark Sinclair. He died April 14 of that year after suffering a brain aneurism.

sorry about being out of the loop, my computer died. i guess i'm lucky i could get to an apple store and get a new hard disk installed the same day. but still that's meant reinstalling everything, ugh!

sue, leave very early for the brewery? remember, they don't open until noon.

maria, i'm afraid the plan in case of rain is we get wet. you can get wet for fewer miles by taking the alternative way back (riding to flossmoor and catching the metra). i guess it wouldn't hurt to bring rain gear. if it's warm, i don't actually mind riding in the rain myself.

hope to see you all tomorrow!

If I go tomorrow, I'm probably going to leave very early, and meet folks later at the brewery.

Train leaves from Flossmoor at 10 after the hour every hour from 9am - 4pm, and arrives downtown about 50 minutes later. (per the schedule, which might correspond to reality.) After 4pm, the trains are about 10 minutes until the hour and take about an hour to get downtown.

If a friend and I only stayed 1 hour at the brewery and then took the metra back what time do you think we could make it back to the city?
