Why this workshop is important:
Many communities are embracing bicycling as an efficient, community-friendly means of local transportation. Providing bicycle facilities is a key strategy for these local communities. Successful bicycle facilities are both safe and comfortable for a wide range of people. The workshop will provide information on current established practice and recent experimentations and innovations in bikeway design, construction, and maintenance.
The workshop provides:
- 6.5 professional development hours for civil engineers
- a class workbook
- snacks and a box lunch
At the end of the workshop, you will have learned:
- About laws and design parameters relating to cyclists as roadway users
- About issues affecting bicyclist safety and convenience
- About recent guidance from AASHTO on the design and construction of on-street and off-street bicycle facilities
- About intersection treatments designed to increase safety for bicyclists
- How to enhance bicyclist mobility, accessibility, and safety through best practices and design
