Description

Get together with interested persons and hear legal experts share their views and help illuminate the internal workings of the justice system as it relates to the unfortunate events which took place when a pair of drivers recently hunted down cyclists in Brookfield and escaped with outrageously light sentences.
This is your chance to get a perspective you won't get via "official" or publicly scrutable channels.
This is an informal/social discussion and not a presentation.

Not sure if I can make it with the pre-ride happening but this is right up my ally.

Sounds good Ian.
Remember this will be a bar setting and Quencher's has no patio/beer garden- I'm not sure much more than a small-ish group will be feasible if everyone's going to be able to hear what's being said.

Imagine the sentence if this case had gone to Judge Kaspar's court.

"I sentence you to 20 years strapped face-down below the underside of a low-riding truck....then....we get nasty."

I plan to discuss the basic criminal process in Illinois and the rights/responsibilities/and recommendations if you are the victim of a crime, tailored to the cycling community. I will try to provide some insight into what may have happened in the criminal case Howard mentioned above and what the community and individuals can do if this happens in the future. I hope Brendan can give us some guidance on the civil side and we can both try to answer people's questions.
