Description

Jews and Gentiles alike, Greet the Jewish new year (Rosh Hashanah), casting your bread upon the waters of the Chicago River just before sunset, followed by northward roll along the north branch.

Not that anyone cares exactly what you do, but traditionally you would have breadcrumbs in your pockets that you would toss on the river, symbolizing a throwing away of the past year's mistakes, regrets, and indiscretions- sort of an autumn cleaning of the soul.

Ps- if it's raining- we won't be there.

Hi! Updating on behalf of Lisa: We will have a bottle of honey apple cider to toast the new year. Bring swimming stuff if you'd like as we will be ending the ride at Pratt Beach in Rogers Park... and after a spell at the Indiana Dunes just concluded, we can assure you that the lake is spectacularly warm for Sept. We believe in the use of inflatable rafts for lake fun, and we have extras. See everyone at the starting point!

"Does the bread have to be unleavened?"

No, that's only for Pesach (Passover).
