Come join CBES on an Autumn ride along the Des Plaines River Trail!
We'll meet at the Logan Square Monument for a 9AM departure. Head over to the Des Plaines River Trail and take that to Tighthead Brewing in Mundelein. There's no food at Tighthead so we'll either order delivery or pick something up on the way there.
From there options are either 3:10 or 5:10 Metra trains from Libertyville or ride another 9 miles to Lake Bluff Brewing. There are 4:21, 5:20, and 7:21 trains back to Chicago from Lake Bluff.
Distance to Tighthead is a bit over 40 miles via 2 potential routes:
Be aware that the Des Plaines River Trail is not paved. Surface fairly smooth and is mostly crushed gravel or limestone. Make sure you and your bike can handle the trail and the distance. This is a non supported ride so make sure you can handle any minor mechanical issues or flats on your bike.
Minimum average speed: 12mph
Bring: Bungee for Metra, Water, Snacks, Lock, Lights, and a Spare Tube

Living in Lake Bluff, I plan to meet the group en route (like the last two RtR rides). Rich, would you mind texting me mid morning tomorrow to let me know what route you decide on taking? Cheers. marcus one two two five at gmail for my number if you don't have it.
Sweet! And yes the weather forecast is looking quite nice. Can't wait for Saturday!
Weather forecast is looking exquisite.
Hope that includes your liver! Tighthead has some tasty brews.
No, referring to the DPRT itself. I like to start the trail at it's southern most terminal point. There's more single-track-ish stuff down there.
Kevin,
Are you talking about the hills/mountain-bike-part farther south?
It's an option. I've only been on the trail as far south as Irving Park. We can decide morning of.
What to you guys think of taking Diversey west to the DPRT in order to ride more of the "fun" stuff?
