Come join CBES on an Autumn ride along the Des Plaines River Trail!
We'll meet at the Logan Square Monument for a 9AM departure. Head over to the Des Plaines River Trail and take that to Tighthead Brewing in Mundelein. There's no food at Tighthead so we'll either order delivery or pick something up on the way there.
From there options are either 3:10 or 5:10 Metra trains from Libertyville or ride another 9 miles to Lake Bluff Brewing. There are 4:21, 5:20, and 7:21 trains back to Chicago from Lake Bluff.
Distance to Tighthead is a bit over 40 miles via 2 potential routes:
Be aware that the Des Plaines River Trail is not paved. Surface fairly smooth and is mostly crushed gravel or limestone. Make sure you and your bike can handle the trail and the distance. This is a non supported ride so make sure you can handle any minor mechanical issues or flats on your bike.
Minimum average speed: 12mph
Bring: Bungee for Metra, Water, Snacks, Lock, Lights, and a Spare Tube

Agreed! Epic. Company, ride, weather, beer (in that order?). Enjoying most of the day outside in late October is a gift -- best shared with friends. Cheers folks.
GREAT time! Thanks Rich!
Thanks for organizing. Beautiful fall day for a ride. And sometime next year we need to plan a ride to ride the trail to the state line.
Thanks Rich! Couldn't ask for a nicer day!
Epic ride! Seriously one of the best rides I've been on the past few seasons. From the trail to the beer to the company I can't ask for more. Thank you all for coming out and wish we could do this every weekend!
Hey guys, sorry for keeping you guys off pace. I was the one who said I would ditch at Dundee, but I did keep on with Kevin and Joe and we made it to Libertyville just in time for the 3:10 train. A bit punishing ride for me, but it was pretty beautiful.
Or we can ride to Lake Bluff and then ride back home! But yeah like Kevin said there is the Metra from Libertyville which we did last year. I was already aware that the NCS was weekday only.
Mickey Finn's is 3.5 miles away and right down the street from the Libertyville metra. 3:10 and 5:10 options.
I just figured out that there is no weekend service on the NCS Metra Line. The easiest return option has evaporated leaving 1. riding back or 2. riding 9 miles East to Lake Bluff. (#2 had already risen to the top of my preference list even before finding out about the NCS)
Glad you'll make it out again Marcus! Plan is to take the DPRT all the way. Only if the trail is really muddy and underpasses are closed from last week's rain would we detour. I expect trail conditions to be fine by now though.
Will text you when we're leaving the nature center and again around Half Day Road.
