Come join the Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society Explorers on a ride to 3 breweries in the north burbs!
We'll meet at the Logan Square Monument for a 10am departure. Head over to the Des Plaines River Trail for about 25-30 miles to Mickey Finn's Brewery in Libertyville for lunch and beer.
From there we'll head 3 miles to Tighthead Brewing for some more beers. They don't have a kitchen there but we should still be good from Mickey Finn's.
And finally, we'll take the north shore bike path about 9 miles to Lake Bluff Brewing.
Lake Bluff metra stop is right around the corner to get us home or ride 30 miles back to Chicago on the McClory and Green Bay trails.
Total distance including getting to the Des Plaines River Trail should be a bit over 50 miles.
Exact route to the Des Plaines River Trail is TBD. In addition to relying on the reports of fellow chainlinkers, I'll check out the trail on the weekend before for its condition. That will determine where we pick up the trail.

I sent an email to the Lake County Forest Preserve Distict (those who manage the Lake County portion of the DPR. I asked what the conditions and closures of the trail's southern sections are (the part the ride rolls through). Here's the good response I just got:

Hi Marcus,
All are open with the exception of Route 60, and it is close. The river is dropping quickly, but we are expecting rain tomorrow and it won't take much to reverse that trend. Check our website for updates before you head out.
Please use caution as there is extensive trail damage, minor to major, along the entire length of the trail. We are addressing as quickly as we can, and are posting warning signs or cones as you approach damaged areas. So keep your speed at a level where you can stop as needed. Also be aware that newly repaired sections of trail tend to be softer, so once again, use caution.
Thanks for checking.
Mike
If we can't ride the DPRT then I'm down to do the reverse.
Jun 15 will be the new ride date if we do need to postpone.
If the DPRT isn't ridable by May 11, how about doing the reverse ride that day, but going on to Light the Lamp Brewing in Grayslake, w/ stops at Lake Bluff and Libertyville?
I'm not sure how long it'll take to be honest. The pictures here are from yesterday. The trail has got to be in bad shape right now since it's on the other side of the river from River Rd.
The reverse ride is doable but I really wanted to ride the DP river trail since I've never ridden it before. We'll see!
It takes that long to dry out? I guess it depends on how much rain we get in the next few weeks. Alternatively we could ride from Chicago to Lake Bluff and then on to the next two places and take the train back.
So unless we literally want to ride the river there's a decent chance this ride'll be postponed. I'm crossing my fingers that things will dry out in the next 3 weeks.
If we do need to postpone then June 8 will likely be the new date.
