Description

Come join the Chicagoland Beer Exploration Society Explorers on a ride to 3 breweries in the north burbs!

The Farmer's Almanac is predicting peak foliage for northern Illinois. This will also be the only free weekend I have since I'll be back in school.

We'll meet at the Logan Square Monument for a 9:30am departure. Head over to the Des Plaines River Trail and take that to Firkin in Libertyville for lunch and beer. This first leg is 40 miles in total. Firkin is not a brewery but comes highly recommended and has an excellent beer list. There's a 5:10pm Metra in Libertyville for those that want to head home after Firkin.

For those continuing, we'll head 3 miles to Tighthead Brewing for some more beers. Tap room only but we should still be good from lunch.

And finally, we'll take the north shore bike path about 9 miles to Lake Bluff Brewing.

Lake Bluff metra stop is right around the corner to get us home or ride 30 miles back to Chicago on the McClory and Green Bay trails.

Total distance including getting to the Des Plaines River Trail should be a bit over 50 miles. Be aware that the DPRT is not paved. Tires at least 28mm in width should be fine as the surface is fairly smooth.

Departure will be 9:30am sharp. We'll be picking up the DPRT at Bryn Mawr and East River Road via this route for anyone running late. Here's the route once we get on the trail.

Minimum average speed: 10mph

Bring: Bungee for Metra, Water, Snacks, Lock, Lights, and a Spare Tube

What a great trip! It was a pleasure to meet you all! While I can't join the ride tomorrow (it's my mom's birthday), I hope to see you all again soon!

I just got home from FBC, hope to meet the group along the way or in Libertyville.

Thanks Rich S. Looking at the timeline 1 page back, Nature Center at noon, Firkin at 2:30. I'll hopefully meet the group about 1 or 1:30, as I head south on the DRT. As for leaves, most are still on the trees.

Cool Rich... If I can make it, I will watch for the group of riders, I'm sure you can't be missed.

Okay, great! Hopefully I'll bring enough layers to keep warm and dry! :)

You should be fine with that tire Brian so long as you can ride at least 10 mph. That's actually the same size tire I have on my bike and I had no problems riding the trail about a month or so ago. Just bring a spare tube just in case.

Going to try my best to make it. I only have a single bike however, and it's more a city cruiser with road bike tires (27x1 1/4). Will I be okay on the DPRT?

Only 20% chance of rain so definitely planning on riding. We're probably not going to be that far north that early tho ... planning on getting to the Nature Center in Glenview by noon. There's a loose timeline posted a page or two back.

I still have your number so I can text you when we're leaving there. Worst case just keep going south and we'll eventually meet up!

I'll likely be picking up the ride somewhere on the DPR between Ryerson Conservation Area and Captain Daniel Wright Woods. Blue bike, screaming yellow jacket, white helmet, will answer to Marcus, or, beer. Somewhere in the vicinity of 11:15 -11:30am. Rain or shine?

Chicagoist named Tighthead's Scaret Fire as their beer of the week. In case anyone needs help deciding what to order when we get there!
