Join us as we venture to the northwest suburbs, home to Chicago's largest Japanese expat community, in search of the region's best bowl of ramen noodle soup. This ride was inspired (and named after) a Chicago Reader article on the subject. Here's the plan:
4:00pm: meet at Logan Square's Centennial Monument (the pillar with the eagle on top), 3200 W. Logan Boulevard. Depart at 4:15. Ride 20 miles at a mellow 10 mph pace, stopping somewhere along the way for a break.
6:45pm: Arrive at Mitsuwa Marketplace in Arlington Heights, an awesome Japanese shopping center with groceries, a bakery, liquor department, a bookstore, and a great food court. If you like, try the ramen at the Santouka stand, rumored to be Chicagoland's finest. Depart at 7:45 and ride 1.5 miles.
8:00pm: Arrive at Mount Prospect's Karaoke House Nina, which offers a full menu of alcohol-friendly foods like takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and gyoza, in addition to three varieties of ramen, which some say is even better than Santouka. Eat and drink your fill, since we won't have much more riding to do, and then take the mic to perform your rendition of Roxy Music's "More Than This." Depart at 10:00 and ride 2.5 miles.
10:37pm: Catch Metra home from the Mount Prospect station arriving at Irving Park station at 11:05, then ride 2.5 miles back to the monument, or else get off at whatever station is most convenient for you.

The ride is on rain or shine, so bring along raingear if you're coming. If it's raining hard at 4pm, meet at Boulevard Bikes, 2535 N. Kedzie, just south of the monument, next to Lula Cafe. In that case, we could ride 2.5 bikes NW to the Irving Park Metra station and catch the 4:43 Metra to Arlington Heights. If it's pouring, we can take the Blue Line to the Metra stop.
Daniel, probably $6-8.
Hi John. I'm a road bike newbie. This event sounds like fun. I drive everyday to school and work, but ridden my bike outside Chicago.
how much will the Metra back be?
Folks, if you're planning on attending, try to give me an RSVP today. It's also fine to show up for the ride without RSVP-ing.
Looking forward to the ride! A buddy of mine who's a native of the Osaka region will be joining us, so she may be able provide tips on interesting things to eat, drink and sing.
