Description

It's time for an April ride on the scenic Prairie and Fox River Trails!

We'll catch the 8:30 Union Pacific Northwest out of Ogilvie to Crystal Lake. From there we'll take the Fox River Trail south. First stop will either be Emmett's or Village Vintner for light lunch and beer. Then we'll proceed another 18-26 miles to Penrose Tap Room which I can't wait to try! From there it'll be a final 11 miles to the Two Brother's Roundhouse. Total distance is a bit less than 50 miles.

BNSF home from the Roundhouse at 4:20, 6:20, and 8:20 with a limit of 10 bikes per train. If there's a lot of us then some can ride 11 miles back to Geneva to catch the 6:37 or 8:37 Union Pacific West back to Chicago.

Please bring:

-water

-layers

-lock

-bungee for Metra

-extra tube

Minimum average speed is 12 mph

No worries Serge I was just busting your balls a bit. Glad you and everyone else came out and most importantly had a fun ride! I'm still thinking about that crazy fast downhill leaving Vintners!

Today my ski goggles are in my bag for the ride home from class late tonight. What a contrast from 70+ two days ago.

Sorry I missed you guys today. But I had a nice 21-mile ride from Geneva to Aurora and back, and took home a growler of Penrose's "Proto Gradus." Schmeckt gut!

Hey, I can't make it today due to injuries, but if someone wanted to pick me up some patina and/or raspberry dubbel from penrose, that would really make my day.

We're in the 2nd car from the back.

There's some thunderstorms in the forecast for tomorrow afternoon so consider bringing a rain shell as backup. Please bring a rag to wipe up your bike so we don't get any hassle for wet messy bikes from Metra conductors.

Yes going from Vintner's direct to Penrose. Should be at Penrose around 2-2:30.

So is Emmetts totally out of the picture?  What is you stop #2 and what time do you think stop #2 will be?

Comment by Rich S on April 11, 2014 at 3:23am

We probably won't be getting to Penrose until 2-2:30 so long as everyone can maintain 12 mph average. If you want to meet us on the trail then message me with your number and we'll keep in touch.

I'll be coming up from the south along the Fox River Trail from Aurora. Thanks for the heads-up about Penrose! I'll pop in to the tasting room at noon or 12:30 -- hope to see the group there.

Message sent! Yes Village Vintner will be our first stop. We should get there by 11am when they open and probably hang out for an hour or so. See ya there!
