Description

You know the drill. Bike to a bowling alley to party with the legendary power-Polka rock band the Polkaholics. Only this time, since Lincoln Square Lanes is closed for renovations, we'll be pedaling about 12 miles to Habetler Bowl, 5250 N. Northwest Highway in Jefferson Park (near Milwaukee and Foster, around the corner from American Science and Surplus). Full bar and snack bar are available, and the Jeff Park Blue Line stop is nearby, so why not make an evening of dancing and bowling? Dress warm!

Very sorry folks - wrapping up something at work and won't be at the plaza before it's time to leave. If you get this, could you please send word to Willow, probably dressed as Santa. Have a great start of the ride - I'll meet up with you down the road.

Solid state circuitry is a transistorized circuit on a PC (printed circuit) board. Tracers are the thin copper tracks covered by a thin layer of solder that take the place of wires connecting components on a conventional hard wired circuit. I can't help you with the pizza except to say that pizza should be available at the bowling alley. Have fun. I sure wish I could go but finding people, especially friends who know hard wired circuits willing to do it for beer and companionship takes presidence over the Polka Ride.

The flyer and route are of course posted on http://massup.us

If your phone's smart enough you can even get live route guidance, or text "map" to u@massup.us for the graphic.

Not if it's solid state. The tracers are fragile and the tiny components are sensitive to soldering heat. This type of circuitry is flash soldered (dipped) in a chemically treated solder bath.

Sorry, John. It never ceases to amaze me that we can go months with nothing going on and then something else comes up to conflict each other. I have been waiting over 9 months for my buddy to find time to help me fix my vintage vacuum tube stereo power amplifier. He called and said he'll be over Friday at 5:30. I can't blow this off. The parts, soldering iron, tube tester and volt meter have been on the work bench along with the disassembled chassis since March. I am a big fan of antique electronics. My pride and joy is a 1930 Philco tombstone.

If anyone doesn't feel like biking there (or gets cold and has to bail from the Mass) the bowling alley is a stone's throw from the Blue Line's Jefferson Park stop.

I'll probably jump in at Wicker Park.

If I don't meet at Daley Plaza I'll meet at the bowling alley. It depends on the weather.
