I did it on my 3-speed last year pretty comfortably. But I'm probably going to bring a multi-speed touring bike this year to be even more comfortable.

Last year there were a number of people on a fg/ss.
Not sure what your definition of high speed is, but we rarely exceeded 15 mph for an extended stretch, with the average being below that.

Gottem Kevin, thanx!
Now question two: My beloved steed's a fixie, and I've done a few 40+ mile days on her, but maybe 60 max. She's light, and Chicago's flat, but long stretches at high speed are taxing. Need I consider borrowing someone's unfamiliar multi-speed instead?

The route is going to be the same basic idea as always with a few new twists.

Does someone have even a hint of a map? Maybe one from last year? First timers me+3 think we might be ready to do 100, and just want to be as prepared as possible. That NewCity article is a nice read, and does make it sound like anyone can do it. But I'm such a nav dork, I'd like some idea in advance of best possible bail point. So, link to a past map anywhere? Link to current? THANX!

Speaking of food, instead of the usual lunch/swim break at Calumet Beach, I was thinking about the following:

- Stop at the new 41st St. Beach for a bathroom, quick swim or snack break

- Have an inexpensive, outdoor, sit-down lunch at Papi Chulo's, a dockside Parrothead pub at Sunset Bay Marina, 136th and the Little Calumet River: . not very veggie-friendly, but you can probably sneak in your own lunch as long as you drink something. Any serious objections?
