From The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's site:
The Out of the Darkness Community Walks are 3-5 mile walks taking place in over 200 communities across the country this fall, with the proceeds benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). By walking in the Out of the Darkness Community Walks, you will be walking with thousands of other walkers nationwide to raise money for AFSP's vital research and education programs to prevent suicide and save lives, increase national awareness about depression and suicide and provide support for survivors of suicide loss. In deciding to walk you are taking us a step closer to making suicide prevention a national priority.
~*~
We all know people who have been affected by suicide, either first hand or otherwise. Last year, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention hosted its Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk here in Chicago and it was a highly powerful event. It was an 18 mile walk, through the city and through the night.
This year, The Overnight is in Boston, but there are still local community walks to be had!
The Chicago Botanic Gardens is hosting one of these walks on September 25th.
There is NO registration fee to register for an Out of the Darkness Community Walk, although each participant is asked to set a minimum fundraising goal of $150.
My Plan:
-I will be riding the ~14 miles there, leaving Rogers Park at 6:30am (breakfast at my house!) to be on time for the 8-9am check in.
-Once there, I will be walking the 3-5 miles in my brother's name.
-After, depending on how I feel, I will either ride home or catch the Metra.
Want to come with? I've started a team. We're called The Psyclists!
Go to the link I've supplied, scroll to the bottom of the page and click, "Join This Team."
If you want to support my efforts, or anyone else on the team, visit the team fundraising page anyway and donate to a worthy cause!
