No, this isn't about making direct amends to the people we've harmed whenever doing so is possible and won't injure them or others.
It's about riding to Three Floyds and boosting our cognitive function every month this year! There's a somewhat consistent schedule -- usually the 4th Saturday of the month -- and you can qualify for the F-12 Award.
September is National Century Month, so this step is a century -- if you ride a little extra before or after. We meet between 7:30 and 8 at Intelligentsia Broadway to caffeinate. We then take Barry east and the lakefront trail south. Feel free to join up anywhere along the trail. Just let us know where so we can look for you.
35 miles to Three Floyds + 10 miles to Flossmoor Station = 45 miles. Take the Metra Electric home or ride another 25 miles to Imperial Oak's Oak-toberfest = 70 miles. Ride another 5 miles to Brixie's in Brookfield = 75 miles. Take the BNSF home or ride another 25 miles to Revolution Kedzie and end at DryHop = 95 miles. 15-18 mph. I like to get to Three Floyds before they open at 11:00 (they're the seventh-best brewery in the world, and the food, like the beer, is unapologetically in your face with flavor, so sometimes there's a line). Bring money, government-issued ID, a lock, lights since we'll be out late, water and snacks to have en route, and panniers for beer you can't get in Chicago.
Online resources: Google map, cue sheet, Metra Electric train schedules, BNSF train schedule, Bikes on the Metra, and, to save a minute at the start, the nifty online CCC waiver.
PS: I give these rides these names because I find them humorous in an ironic way. It's not my intent to make light of addictions, efforts to recover from addictions, or 12-step peer support groups like AA. If you're trying to drink in moderation, we'll support you. If you're trying to abstain, you may want to give this ride a pass.

thanks everybody for coming out in less-than-ideal weather! hope you all made it home safe.
definitely!
Hey Bob, given that the rain clears out decently tomorrow morning I'm am still up for riding. Can we meet on the LFP by Buckingham fountain around 8:30 as usual?
somehow missed these before!
the 3 floyds oktoberfest is the same day! but not until later :-(
forecast looking up again!
Saturday 09/28 20% Cloudy skies early will become partly cloudy later in the day. High near 65F. Winds NE at 10 to 15 mph. |
setting my sights on:
Barley Wine with a deep amber color and bronze reflections. Close to the nose the bouquet is immediately impactful, intense and complex: notes of candied fruit and spirit, dried figs, fresh tobacco and chocolate, the feeling of caramel is perceived but remains in the background. In the mouth the first sensation is of incredible density and softness, a silky warmth that accompanies memories of bitter orange jam, dried fruit, chestnut honey
7.1% ABV, 13 IBU
Our second beer in a series featuring iconic Ice Cream Parlor flavor variations. A Milkshake IPA brewed with Lactose and Orange Puree. Aromas and flavors of Orange.
current forecast not as great as before :-(
Saturday 09/28 40% Cloudy with showers. High 66F. Winds NNE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 40%. |
got it. your guest doesn't ride as much? :-)
I may have a guest. If so, I'll do Three Floyds only.
