Description

No, this isn't about making direct amends to the people we've harmed whenever doing so is possible and won't injure them or others.

It's about riding to Three Floyds and boosting our cognitive function every month this year! There's a somewhat consistent schedule -- usually the 4th Saturday of the month -- and you can qualify for the F-12 Award.

September is National Century Month, so this step is a century -- if you ride a little extra before or after. The ride takes the lakefront trail south from the Clock Tower. You can join up anywhere along the trail. Just let the group know where so they can look for you.

35 miles to Three Floyds + 10 miles to Flossmoor Station = 45 miles. Take the Metra Electric home or ride another 25 miles to Imperial Oak's Oak-toberfest = 70 miles. Ride another 5 miles to Brookfield = 75 miles and take the BNSF home or another 25 miles to Revolution's Oktoberfest, the Beer Temple, and back to the clock tower = 95 miles. 15-18 mph. I like to get to Three Floyds before they open at 11:00 (they're still one of the top 100 brewers in the world, and the food, like the beer, is unapologetically in your face with flavor, so sometimes there's a line). Bring money, government-issued ID, a lock, lights since we're staying out late, water and snacks to have en route, and panniers for beer you can't get in Chicago.

Online resources: Google map, cue sheet, Metra Electric train schedules, BNSF train schedule, Bikes on the Metra, and, to save a minute at the start, the nifty online CCC waiver.

PS: I give these rides these names because I find them humorous in an ironic way. It's not my intent to make light of addictions, efforts to recover from addictions, or 12-step peer support groups like AA. If you're trying to drink in moderation, we'll support you. If you're trying to abstain, you may want to give this ride a pass.

Sounds like a plan.  I will be at clock tower at 8.  Or I can meet you at Fullerton at 8.

also trying a new route from FS to the tinley creek trail (which i just now learned was called that).

i'm going to go with 8.

the reason i make it extra-early is i don't want to get there "late" (for example, if someone gets a flat) and not be in the first wave that to be seated, which could then mean waiting for hours, because we'll still have so far to go.

but probably no one will get a flat, and i don't think the lines are as bad as they used to be.

should we vote? 7:30 or 8?

also, last sun. the trail was torn up south of hyde park. actually that day the drive was closed for a run, but the runners were all going southbound, so we could ride on the drive instead, but that won't be the case this weekend.

the forecast is getting better! now no showers in the morning, and in the evening a few showers starting at 8 and showers starting at 9. although the chance of rain is 24% between 4 and 7.

I think I asked this last year - is it really 7:30 departure?  I will likely meet at Fullerton, given the state of the trail these days.  Also, still anticipating riding to 3F and back.
