Description

Join Friends of the Cal-Sag Trail, Alsip Park District and Rails-to-Trails Conservancy at Freedom Park in Alsip for a fun morning exploring the treasurers, both hidden and on the wing, along the Cal-Sag!

8–9am—Bird Watching Along the Cal-Sag! Learn and walk with bird watching legend Walter Marcisz from the Chicago Ornithological Society (http://chicagobirder.org/) to learn about the avian residents of the Cal-Sag, what might be migrating through our area, and how to identify and record them. Bring your own binoculars/field glasses; we'll have a limited number for folks to borrow.

9:15–10:15am—Geocaching on the Cal-Sag Trail! Join Paul (aka Corps of Discovery) from Geocachers of Northeastern Illinois (GONIL) (http://gonil.org/) to learn about geocaching along the Cal-Sag. Geocachers use GPS devices (including phones) to hide and seek containers (called "geocaches" or "caches") anywhere in the world. Learn how to get started, where to look, and what kind of trinkets and treasures people leave behind.

And don't forget to pledge to get outside on opening trails day—register at http://www.railstotrails.org/opening-day-for-trails and you can win a bike!
