Description

Dress in your finest tweedy gear (or at least Sunday best), strap a picnic basket on your steed, and let's ride! This promises to be a delightful spring ride, and if you're not familiar with this part of the city, you'll be quite chuffed at the charming sights along the way.

Everyone who arrives in appropriate garb, receives a commemorative hub shiner or basket medal, handmade from leather. Spandex queens and hipster bores shall have none.

We will meet at a dandy English establishment - the Red Lion - for some pastys and chips. It's BYOB, so be sure to have your picnic basket packed for the journey. (there is a libation vendor at Rockwell and Lawrence, and a green grocer -Harvestime- one block west of there) Then at 2 o'clock sharp, we shall ride leisurely through urban countryside, over hill and dale, to a delightful place where we shall nosh and drink from our baskets! Along the way, shall be more parks, Chief O'Neills, a stroll on a riverside boardwalk, and then finally rolling into the Anglo-friendly Globe (with whomever managed to get out of O'Neills). Those who need to return to the starting point, but are too exhausted, may shuttle their steeds on the Lincoln bus.

Here's a map of the general route.

Sorta. One of the owners of the old one started this one. Apparently, they closed the old one for remodeling, and learned they have to rebuild the building.

Does anybody know if this Ravenswood Red Lion is owned by the same people who owned the one on Lincoln Ave.   And why is that one standing empty for so many years?  Ghosts, perhaps?

Gee I hope it isn't in Beverly. From the pictures it looks pretty promising. As long as it is within my transportation means, I'll probably check it out. It not, I think I'll look into some thrift/vintage stores and break out my sewing machine to modify my finds. Avoiding overpriced items is high on my list!

Of course the address hasn't been released yet.  Check back after nine tomorrow morning.  Could be in Beverly for all I know.  Sales like this where vintage shops get their merchandise.

If you are still going to hit stores, I might go. I need some pantaloons :\

Brilliant idea Jared!  Thanks for the info.  After visiting some vintage store websites, I am very inclined to go with your suggestion.

If your looking for vintage clothes you might want to try an estate sale.  The one in the link is this weekend and has a lot of clothes.  Prices should be a fraction of what a vintage shop would charge.

Anyone want to go vintage clothes shopping on Saturday afternoon to seek out outfits and accessories for Sunday's Tweed Ride?  I was thinking we could meet at 2:00 pm at Lulu’s at
3862 North Lincoln Avenue and then maybe head to Mr. and Mrs. Digz
at 5668 North Clark Street and anywhere else that might suit our purposes. Anyone game?  I would love to find some tony accessories and it would be so much more fun to shop with friends.

My favourites ...

I didn't use to put them on my bikes as a kid, I went with leather straps, but I did used to get them for and put them on my kids' bikes in the late 1970s back in Blighty!
