Back in April, we planted 25 young oak trees along the trail. In spring and early summer, Mother Nature was providing plenty of rain. Now the oak trees could use a bit of TLC. Friends of the Major Taylor Trail is working with the Openlands TreeKeepers program to have an emergency workday to help the trees stay healthy until fall rains kick in.
Hiking boots or work boots are recommended. If you have work gloves, please bring them. If not, some work gloves will be available for use. If you can bring at least 1 5-gallon bucket and/or a garden cart that can carry 40+ lbs, that would be helpful, but it's not required.
If you think you'll be able to help, please respond so we have an idea how many volunteers to expect.

We appreciate the help of anyone who's able to come. So far most of the rain from tonight's t-storm action is passing north of 95th St. and doesn't appear to be giving anything to our little oak trees a few miles further south.
I would do it but it's too far South too early in the morning and I'm dead after Critical mass.
I'll try to be there. I'm pretty overwhelmed with work right now, and I have a big Quincé later in the day, but I will try to come over with my trailer and bucket. Where will we be getting the water from? (I'd prefer to not have to roll the water over from Blue Island, if possible)
