The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) will present an update on the “Lawrence Avenue Road Diet” project, first unveiled in July 2010. Ald. Ameya Pawar (47th) will also be present to field questions at the event hosted by the Ravenswood Community Council and scheduled for Tuesday, August 30, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at the Chase Park Theatre, 4701 N. Ashland Ave.
The “Road Diet” project, which entails reducing the number of lanes from four to three between Ashland and Western Avenues, adding a bike lane and widening sidewalks, was originally projected to cost $10-$12 million, according to CDOT. When it was announced, city officials planned to begin work on the project, “2011 at the earliest” but no specific date had been set and funds for the project had not yet been identified.
