Description

Hey everyone,

Let's do a leisurely ride to the Illinois Railway Museum, located in northwest-suburban Union, IL. They've got steam trains, diesel trains, and electric cars (see http://www2.irm.org/blogs). Bring out the kid in you :-).

We'll take Metra's Union Pacific Northwest Line to Crystal Lake; from there, it's 13.8 miles over to the museum (see http://g.co/maps/7zca). Plan on a pace of 12-14 mph?

Board the first train of the day at your closest station (Ogilvie, Clybourn, Irving Park, etc.), and we'll meet at Crystal Lake when the train gets in at 11:51 a.m. (schedule's here: http://metrarail.com/metra/en/home/maps_schedules/metra_system_map/up-nw/schedule.full.html). Alternately, drive to the Crystal Lake station, and meet us there.

There are return trains from Crystal Lake at 3 p.m., 5 p.m., and 7 p.m.

Just a note that this event is being cross-listed with the Chicagoland Bicycling Meetup group, so as to make it even more social. As such, everyone who attends will be required to wear a helmet. Just please be aware of that if you're taking part. Thanks.
