Description

What would it look like if a nuclear bomb was dropped in Chicago?

This August marks the 70th commemorative anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings of 1945. To commemorate these events and stand up for the elimination of all nuclear weapons, we’ll be biking through the city of Chicago, tracing the distance around the Hiroshima bomb blast in solidarity.

To RSVP, go to : http://goo.gl/forms/KHZZrz4C4f .

There are still more than 15,000 nuclear weapons in the world today. Many of these weapons are ready to launch at a moment’s notice. It’s time we call on President Obama and other world leaders to stand down these weapons of mass destruction and join the fight toward global zero – a world without nuclear weapons.

Join us on Sunday, August 9 at Oz Park for “Bike Around the Bomb Chicago” event as we cycle the circumference of the Hiroshima bomb blast to symbolize what a “small” nuclear blast would look like in our city and what we stand to lose. Bike Around the Bomb Chicago will be one of dozens of corresponding events across the world, from Seattle to New Delhi, from Washington D.C. to Islamabad and beyond. Together, let’s remind world leaders that nuclear weapons are designed to wipe cities like ours off the map.

This event is both FREE and open to the public. Friends and families of all ages are welcome!

Stay posted for more details about location information.

Email Kylie, at kylieivb@yahoo.com, for more information.

Use the hashtag #EliminateNukes to connect online with other 70th anniversary events happening all over the world on this same day. Together, we can #EliminateNukes!

7 miles is smaller than i imagined. but you did say a “small” nuclear blast.

The route is about 7 miles. We will head down the Lake Shore Trail and back up through the Loop on Wells, back to Oz Park. We'll be taking a few breaks because there will be a few beginners with the group! Hope to see you there.
