Description

4th of July Metric Ride
Presented by the Joliet Bicycle Club, Inc.

* Children rates
* Great snacks and refreshments
* Scenic, low-traffic rural roads

What's Included:

* Marked Routes
* Map and cue sheets
* Emergency sag services
* Food and drink rest stops

Starting Location and Route:
Come and join us for a great ride through Kendall and Grundy Counties, southwest of Plainfield, IL. There are three rural routes to chose from, 30, 45 and 62 miles. Each will offer marked routes with low traffic and light hills though farm and rural settings. The three routes start and finish at Plainfield South High School (7800 Caton Farm Rd, Plainfield, IL 60586) located
on the southeast corner of Ridge Rd. and Caton Farm Rd. in Plainfield, IL.

Directions:

Easiest: Take I-80 to Ridge Road (Exit No.122). Go north on Ridge Road 7 miles to Plainfield South High School,( l800 Caton Farm Rd, Plainfield, IL 60586) located at the southeast corner of Caton Farm Road and Ridge Road.

Alternative: Take I-55 to Route 126 exit, first exit after Weber Road. You will be heading west on Route 126, turn south (left) on to Route 59 (light at intersection), proceed south to Caton Farm Road. Turn west (right) on to Caton Farm Road (light at intersection), and go about 5 miles west. The high school will be on your left. Turn south (left) on Ridge Road (light at intersection) and then turn into high school.

Rest Stops:
There will be breaks (sag stops) along the way at our strategically placed rest stops (approximately every 15 miles) to refuel, refresh and chow down on bagels, sandwiches, fruit, cookies and energy drinks and more.

End of Ride food:

Hot dogs and watermelon will be provided at the end of the ride for the first 800 registrants.

Marked Routes, Cue Sheets & Sag Vehicles:
The routes will be clearly marked and each rider will receive a cue sheet at the registration table. Sag wagons will patrol the route until 4 PM to assist you if your bike should break down. While Sags will stop to help those in need, priority is given to those with justifiable emergencies -- riders with irreparable breakdowns, illness or injury. A flat tire is not considered an emergency. All riders should carry a spare tube, pump and water.

All riders must be off the road by 4:00 pm, so please don't take too many breaks.

Arrival Time:
In order for you to complete the ride while the rest stops are still open and the sag wagons are out, we suggest the following arrival times:

Route Arrival Time Sag Wagon
60 mi. 7-9:30AM 7-3 PM
30 & 45 mi. 7-10 AM 7-4 PM All riders off route by 4PM!

Safety:
The Joliet Bike Club is concerned about cyclist safety. All bicyclists participating in the 4th of July Metric are expected to obey the Illinois rules of the road as they apply to bicyclists. The routes are on public roads and must be shared with motor vehicles. The Joliet Bicycle Club supports the efforts and actions of law enforcement agencies.

We recommend that you wear an ANSI or SNELL approved helmet. Please ride no more than two abreast.

We believe bicyclists deserve to share the road, showing courtesy to motorists and other riders.

All rides aged fifteen (15) and under must be accompanied and supervised by an adult throughout the ride.

Additional information may be obtained by sending a self-addressed envelope to JBC, 4th of July Metric, P.O. Box 2758, Joliet, Il. 60434 or email Diane at Dianew3miles@sbcglobal.net

Ed, thanks for the offer. I still plan to ride to the start, but I will probably need a ride afterward if I join you all for lunch.

Scout away Ed. The more options, the better.

Should I scout a spot for the after-ride lunch?
Or does someone know a good place in the area?

Also, there is talk of everyone having lunch together afterwards. There's a whole group of Windy City Cyclists going as well.
