Description

Camping at Chain O Lakes State park. It's about 60 miles from Chicago. We will head up there July 2nd and hopefully get a campsite. At this point no reservations are available to be made and we are hoping to get one of the first come, first serve spots. It's likely as most of their campsites are non-reservable.

Once there we can rent canoes and other boats, bike to farms, hike, fish, etc.

We will meet at California and Lawrence to ride up from the city. One thing to note is that bikes are NOT allowed on the Metra due to the Taste of Chicago. We are not planning on having a gear car this time, so we'll have to be prepared to schlep our stuff both ways....unless you want to wait until the 7th to ride the Metra back when the Taste ends.

If folks need camping stuff, or extra paniers, and that's all that's keeping you from coming, let me know. I've got lots of camping stuff. The more, the merrier!

Here's my idea for the route (GPS software or Google Earth) - same distance but routed according to the Illinois bicycle map....more convenient for me but folks could get to Evanston via the LSD and the green bike signs. If I go, this is what I'm going to do. So the route heads west from the Green Bay at Lake Bluff and follows the North Shore Path for awhile, then it heads northwest via the state recommended street/county highway routes. 56 miles for me, maybe around 65 miles from downtown.

If I knew how to do a GPX version of my route, I'd do it. All i have a turn by turn listing and then just a clicked through route above.
