Description

Camping at Chain O Lakes State park. It's about 60 miles from Chicago. We will head up there July 2nd and hopefully get a campsite. At this point no reservations are available to be made and we are hoping to get one of the first come, first serve spots. It's likely as most of their campsites are non-reservable.

Once there we can rent canoes and other boats, bike to farms, hike, fish, etc.

We will meet at California and Lawrence to ride up from the city. One thing to note is that bikes are NOT allowed on the Metra due to the Taste of Chicago. We are not planning on having a gear car this time, so we'll have to be prepared to schlep our stuff both ways....unless you want to wait until the 7th to ride the Metra back when the Taste ends.

I was going to pack a little bit of food....dried lentils, etc. I also have a campstove, though they also have fire rings.

I'm planning on staying until Sunday, but I think some people are biking back on Saturday. There is a Jewel a couple of miles from the park, so we can always go there so we don't have to bike with lots of food. I'm also planning on biking to a couple of farms and picking up some stuff there.

I'm packing tonight since I'm busy Wednesday night, so I'll pack my list of what I'm bringing after work.

What about food folks? I have a camp stove. I can pack veggie for everyone, and then you could hit me up with some cash, or we can each bring our own...what are folks thinking. ...and how many nights is this by the way? (Oops, student - no sense of time). Ok, keep me posted, and we'll work out all the nitty gritty of the trip! best, HB

Correction - I have a two person tent. If it so happens that you have a situation where you need to get on Metra, lock the bike up in a secure location and get it back the next day or later in the week.

Hey Jody,
I'm bringing the two person tent, so you're on! I only have one light weight pad, but Jamie, I got the one I have at that sports place on Clark, just south of Belmont (across from DSW and marshalls)...and it was rather cheap there.

Generous offer, Hannah! That was a deal breaker for me, so now I have just a few days to dream up another.

I do not believe the presence of a car will affect anything. However, Matt and I will have one-man tents, so unless the four of you are in two two-man tents we will exceed the maximum number of tents. I'm not terribly concerned about that, but there are ways around it.

I'm not too worried about them cracking down on us having extra tents. My phone number is 773-841-3979 if anyone needs to call with questions or what not. Oh Hannah--you don't happen to have an extra lightweight sleeping pad? i have a foam one that I took before and I am hoping to buy one tomorrow, but I'm worried that REI might not have the one I want. Let me know if you do!

um...also, how about just to be safe, we post some phone numbers...also, do you think that you can only have 4 people if you also have a car taking up space? Maybe we can swing an extra tent since we have no vehicle??? Maybe they're trying to limit those? hmmmmm...

Yep, that sounds good. I know that my blackberry worked when I was there last time. We should actually have a fourth riding up on Thursday...but two campsites should stilll be plenty.

Matt and I will go up the 3rd if you manage to secure campsites.

The campsites will allow 4 people and 2 tents each. If its just you three (Hannah, Anne, Jami) going up the 2nd, then two campsites should be enough. This is also assuming no one else will be riding up later. You will then post on chainlink that you have campsites (i.e., you have internet access out there).

Sound like a plan?
