Public domain books like Candide can also be found at project Gutenberg:

Great humorous article on Book Clubs:
"Book clubs—the phrase alone conjures up the taste of white wine and melty cheese cubes and a vision of copies of The Deep End of the Ocean, only the first halves even slightly perused. We can thank Oprah for this template, despite her best intentions, but it’s also kind of a primal urge to get together and drink, and a slightly-less primal urge to conceal this liquoring-up behind the veneer of literature."

I'm really looking forward to this!  I read Candide in grad school.  Wish I still had my notes.  The course was entirely on literature of the Enlightenment.

I tried to reserve the book with the library, but it's taking forever.  So I found that I could download a copy for free in iBooks on my iPad.  It will be my first time reading a book on the iPad...not sure how I'll like it.

Unless something comes up, it would be really cool to do something intelligent while drinking. Marty
