Many riders are expected to take the Metra train to the start point (ex: Depart Chicago’s OTC station on Metra’s Union-Pacific North towards Kenosha at 10:35 am to arrive at the Highland Park Metra train station at 11:26 am). From the Highland Park Metra station, walk two blocks to Port Clinton Square (620 Central Ave, Highland Park, IL 60035).
At 11:30AM the group will begin to unload bikes from the U-Haul and we will eat lunch in the plaza. Bring your own food or buy a meal from any of a number of restaurants there. We'll gather up our bikes and roll out promptly at 12:30 pm.
Note: If you are running late and miss our "rollout", you can take the next available train directly to the state park (Zion station), still take part in the weekend camping event, and reunite with your bike & supplies, riding back on Sunday.
This Is Bike Camping
Bike camping offers a total sensory experience, where the journey is as important as the destination. It’s like backpacking by bike; you carry your camping gear and kid(s) with you on your bicycle. With this adventure, we offer families - beginners and experts alike - an opportunity to experience bike camping beyond the city. The bike and gear transportation we provide from Chicago to the start point allows us all to ride a reasonable distance with kids and essential camping gear, then revel in the sense of accomplishment and exhilaration upon arriving to the beach and campsite after a long ride.
