Evanston Streets Alive!

For the second year in a row, a mile of Main Street between Hinman Avenue and the Robert Crown Center will be closed to motor vehicles and open to fun activities for all ages. The free “open streets” event includes four of the city’s nine aldermanic wards (2nd, 3rd, 4th and 9th) and spans two parks, a lively business district, and a major transit hub.

This year's Streets Alive! theme is “Just Move - Walk, Run and Bike to a More Sustainable Life!”  The goals of the event are to inspire healthy, green transportation and to help everyone visualize new ways to use public space.

This year, Streets Alive! has partnered with the Evanston Environmental Association (EEA) to bring the Evanston Green Living Festival to the event. Located on Main Street between Ridge and Asbury Avenues, the Green Living Festival will feature a large number of businesses and local organizations exhibiting their sustainable products, services, and ideas; alternative transportation and energy demonstrations; and much more.

Also new to Streets Alive!, Latino Resources and the City of Evanston will host the Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-off Celebration at Main Street and Ashland Avenue in front of Washington School. The celebration will include live music, art, food, dancing, games, and more.

Other free activities at Streets Alive! include a climbing wall, street soccer, a bike rodeo, a kids’ bike ride, an Explore Evanston bike tour, an imagination playground, a chalk art contest, dancing, drumming, live music, an interactive art project, a hula hoop festival, bike instruction, food trucks, and more.
