Adventure cycling to Pullman Factories event update. #5 (The Final Update)

The Time Table

We will need to keep ourselves on schedule in order to participate in the tours once we arrive at Pullman, so I have outlined a timeline of what will happen when. There are a couple options for quick lunch times and if one chooses they don't have to participate in all the activities if they would like to have a longer lunch break. I'm posting the current menu for the Pullman Cafe or you can also pack a lunch and eat at Arcade Park as well.

It may be wise to pre-order your lunch so that they can get a head start preparing your meal. The cafe is small and I wouldn't want to overload them.

They close at 5pm today to get your pre-order in. Here is there telephone number and website.

8:00 am - Must arrive at Daley Plaza near the Picasso for last minute instructions.


8:15 am - Will will leave at 8:15 sharp! Please do not call, txt, or message to have us wait. It's not fair to the group to hold back the departure time and possibly arrive late.

9:15 am - We will arrive at the South Chicago Cultural Center for a quick 15 minute break.

9:45 am - We will ride pass the Ore Wall/Velendrome (We will stop at these points of interest in the way back)

10:30 am - We will arrive at the Pullman factory gates to park our bikes and you have the option to play some frisbee golf before the Factory tour.

10:45 am - 11:15 am - Quick early Lunch if you choose at the Pullman Cafe or if you brought your own lunch at the Arcade Park.

11:30 am - Factory Tour Begins

1:00 pm - 1:30 pm - Later lunch if you choose at the Pullman Cafe or if you brought your own lunch at the Arcade Park.

1:30 pm - Walking neighborhood tour begins

3:00 pm - Cycling Tour of the Garage Art and Laborpaste Art

4:00 pm - We depart back to the Lake Front Trail.

Group Ride Cycling Safety Tips

First of all I would like to remind cyclist that you must have a sound working and capable bicycle for this event. If you have never rode 40 Miles in a group ride setting before this ride may be too ambitious for you and you must know your limitations. If you feel unsure, I ask you please reconsider attending this particular event.

- Please fill your tires to the maximum pressure to minimize pinch flats, tires under inflated are prone to this type of flat.

- Be aware of others around you such as fellow cyclists, runners, joggers (especially wearing earbuds), walkers, tourists, and pets. You may see them but they may not see or hear you coming.

- If you see a hole, large cracks, glass, or debri on the road please call it out so the cyclist behind you is aware.

- Follow at a safe distance. Your front wheel shouldn't overlap the rear wheel of the person in front of you this creates a serious hazard.

- Use hand signals when stopping quickly.

- Safely cross intersections. If you can't make the light, we will wait for you on the other side of the intersection.

- Be alert, it's great to have conversations with people while riding but remember to be aware of your surroundings and potential hazards.

What to bring?

- H20 - Bring a water bottle or CamelBak, we will refill up at the South Chicago Cultural Center

- Cash for the $10 donation (or more if you like) and any additional money for food you may consume. Here is the website for The Pullman Cafe http://thepullmancafe.com

- Extra inner tube and patch kit.

- U-lock or Cable Lock, even though most of us will be able to park our bikes inside the gates of the factory grounds we are ultimately responsible for our own bikes and are required to lock them up.

- Helmet

- Sunscreen

- Frisbee, if we get there early enough we maybe able to play frisbee golf.

- If your taking the train with a bicycle you will need something to secure it with like a bunji chord, or an old inner tube would work as well.

- Last but not least a sense of Adventure!!!!

Today I will be spotlighting a couple of the artists of Pullman.

JB Daniel and Ian Lantz

Resident artist Ian Lantz has graciously volunteered to give us a cycling tour of the alleyways of his Garage Art and of JB Daniel's Laborpaste Art on the historic buildings around Pullman.

My friend and I want to do this bike ride on Sunday. We will be coming from Hyde Park. Can we meet you directly at the South Shore Cultural Center? If so, what time should we plan to meet you all there??

Adventure cycling to Pullman Factories event update.

Everyday up until the day of the event I will post a quick update to share important information to prepare you for the ride below is the first update......

You may have notice the cycling adventure start location has been changed to Daley Plaza near the Picasso by 8:00am (There are 2 marathons going on at the same time at Buckingham fountain so it made sense to change the start location to Daley Plaza)

Pullman $10 donation required. (Although there is no charge for the ride itself, I do ask everyone to please donate $10 (or more if you choose). The $10 will be collected once we arrive.

Please also be sure to vote for The Pullman National Monument so they can receive 2 Million dollars in funding to help with the restoration project.
