Everyone, in the spirit of this post:

http://www.thechainlink.org/forum/topics/lets-stop-bitching-about-the

Let's get together, clean up some bikes, donate a little cash, hopefully get some donations and do some good in our community and country.

Gabe has secured us a spot at S&G's on Southport & Lincoln.

We need volunteers, rags, toothbrushes, cleaning solution, bowls, buckets, etc. Bring whatever you can.

Spread the word, tell your friends, tell them to tell their friends that on Saturday July 10th from 10am until 2pm (ish?) they can get their bikes cleaned and all we ask is for a donation of any size to help the cause of those cleaning up the horrendous mess along our Gulf Coast.

We haven't decided yet on who to donate to, and could use your opinions and help on that!

We've decided to help the families of Louisiana and the school supply drive

Read the flyer for complete details.

I'll bring tools and my floor pump as well.

Everyone should at least bring rags, a toothbrush, a bottle of cleaning stuffs, and a bowl or bucket

Lots of people were interested in a weekday version of this event.

Please feel free to organize a sister event, if you are available to help on a weekday.

Thoughts on this?
http://volunteerlouisiana.gov/blog/comments/first-lady-supriya-jind...

Directly helping families who have lost their jobs and income due to the spill, sending their kids to school with adequate supplies. I'm a huge advocate of education so personally this meets my goals for helping in this situation. But I want to run it by the larger group, to get at least a viable consensus.

The sort of money we will raise at this event will probably be reasonable for giving in this way.

I caught wind of this idea after calling a friend of mine yesterday who is down in Louisiana right now and had told me things like this are in great need because the media attention is not focusing on these perspectives of the spill's impact.

Here is an official site if anyone wants to do more research, but I have to choose TODAY so I can make a flyer.

Please leave thoughts and comments, thanks.

I will also post/ hand out fliers if they are made.

I'll bring a few tools with me too, incase someone needs a little deraileur/ brake tune up. If someone has a good quality pump, can you bring it?
