The Chicago Police Department admits it uses zero-tolerance bike ticketing in Black and Latino neighborhoods as an excuse for stop-and-frisk, while they're not enforcing the law the same way in majority-white areas. That's how we wound up with 397 bike tickets written in North Lawndale in 2017 but only 5 written in Lincoln Park. This unevenly applied "broken windows" policing is unjust and counterproductive to reducing violence, and it needs to stop. Tomorrow we ride in solidarity with POC communities that are being unfairly targeted to demand that the CPD end this racist policy.
