Celebrate Olympic Day Chicago with 2 Free Events!

Chicago 2016 invites you to join in the city’s celebration of Olympic Day on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 with two free events: a three-mile Fun Run and a lakefront sports extravaganza, featuring a surprise concert!

Fun Run.

After work, join in a three-mile fun run along the lakefront path. Two runs will occur simultaneously—the Near North Fun Run, which starts at Irving Park Road, and the Downtown Fun Run, which starts at Balbo across from Grant Park. Both will begin at 6:00 p.m. and finish at North Avenue Beach. Registration is free. To sign up: www.chicago2016.org/olympic-day/sign-up.aspx

Sports Extravaganza and Concert.

From 6-10:00 p.m. North Avenue Beach will be transformed into a mini Games. Get a taste of what Chicago might be like in 2016 as you witness exciting competitions and demonstrations of Olympic and Paralympic sport, such as archery, kayaking, wheelchair basketball, volleyball and soccer. A surprise concert, which will be announced on June 15th, will also begin at 6 p.m. Stay tuned for more details!

Olympic Day is an annual celebration that unites millions of people across the globe to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games. This year it has special meaning for Chicagoans, as the city has already begun counting down the days until Copenhagen. Come out to support the bid, celebrate Olympism and have some fun!
