Description

The Friends of Busse Woods are proud to present the Busse Spring Pedal, a fundraiser for the non-profit organization. The event includes an 8-mile bike ride, some Earth-friendly activities, bike tune-ups, and a catered lunch.

Participants are encouraged to bring batteries and cell phones for recycling. Participants can also bring documents that they would like to have shredded to the event. There will be bins to place these materials in at the welcome/registration area.

The bike ride will begin near picnic grove 17 which can be accessed by entering the forest preserve at the entrance just east of Route 53 along Higgins Rd. The bike path at Busse Woods, which is an 8 mile loop, leads cyclists through some heavily wooded areas, around lakes, and past the elk pen. Cyclists of all ages will enjoy the ride!

After the bike ride, all participants will enjoy a catered lunch.

After lunch, the group will partake in some activities that will benefit Mother Nature. We will remove trash from the picnic grove and nearby forested areas. We will also remove garlic mustard, which is an aggressive plant that crowds out native prairie plants. Removing garlic mustard is as simple as grabbing the stem of the plant a few inches from the ground, pulling up, and placing the plant in a bag. Adults and children can participate in both of these rewarding activities.

A bike and helmet are required to participate in the bike ride.
