Description

Policy - Bronzeville's Foremost Black Industry

“Policy” the informal (and, at the time, illegal) lottery was a key driver of the Bronzeville economy until Illinois “nationalized” the activity, creating the Illinois Lottery.  Nate Thompson, the leading expert on the subject will tell the story of the people and places that made Policy the biggest black-owned business in the world in the first half or the 20th century and a key pillar of the economic foundation of Bronzeville and the South Side.
