Birds of the Major Taylor Trail ride

If you haven't yet RSVPed, please contact ride leader before showing up. We have sign-ups on multiple sites and have reached max # of riders.

This ride concept is an experiment. We meet at the north trailhead, check out some birds in Dan Ryan Woods, then ride the Major Taylor Trail, stopping at planned locations and when there are interesting birds to see along the way, explore Whistler Woods, ride back and check out a different part of Dan Ryan Woods. 

This ride is limited to 25 people, so please RSVP soon to get a spot. There are sign-ups on other sites, so the total here does NOT reflect the total signed up.

Ride distance: about 14 miles
Ride pace: 10-14 mph

If you have binoculars, bring them. It's possible that a limited number might be available for use, but it's not a sure thing.

There's quite a variety of birds to see. Species spotted on and near the trail in the last year include: golden crowned kinglet, cardinal, several species of woodpeckers and hawks, monk parakeet, barn owl, bald eagle and many more. If we're lucky, we could also see migrating sandhill cranes.

Please wear or bring shoes that are suitable for walking. 

If you want to take Metra, the 91st St. station on the Rock Island is only a few minutes away via the Major Taylor Trail.
