Bike Winter Art and Fashion Show 2012
A Fashion Show Benefit for Chicago Bike Winter and West Town Bikes
The 15th Annual Bike Winter Art Show closes on March 9th at the Gala Gallery located at 1000 N. Milwaukee Ave. Join us at the Bike Winter Art Show for a night of bicycle enthusiasm, cycling camaraderie and rider revelry that’s sure to shake off the winter blues. The benefit kicks off at 8 pm with a family fun puppet show performed by Jabberwocky. The main event, a runway fashion show, starts at 9 pm and is sponsored by Rapid Transit Cycles. The fashion show features Spring 2012 bikes as well as the latest gear from area bikes shops including Blue City Cycles, Boulevard Bikes, Ciclo Urbano, Comrade Cycles, and West Town Bikes. Additionally, a range of vintage fashions provided by online retailer, Lucitebox, will be modeled by stylish women who bike. After the fashion show, deejay Montay spins the beats. The event is free and open to the public.
The Bike Winter Art Show closing party benefits Bike Winter Chicago. The Bike Winter group is a volunteer run, grassroots concern established in 1999 that encourages bicyclists to ride their bikes all year long. Their mission is to get people to break out of winter hibernation mode. Bike Winter Chicago organizes events, activities, and “how-to” workshops that give cyclists plenty of reason to stay in the saddle when the temperatures drop.

Proceeds from the fashion show party will be donated to West Town Bikes, a city-wide service provider for youth programs in Chicago. Headquartered in West Town, the organization operates a bike workshop that hosts after-school programs that aim to provide young people with mechanical skills, environmental awareness, and physical fitness. WTB works in partnership with community organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago, the Logan Square Neighborhood Association and After School Matters.
Ride your bike to the gallery for the Bike Winter Art Show closing party. Look at art. Bring the kids to the puppet show. Delight in the fashion show. Lust after new bikes. Hang with other cyclists. Drink beer. Dance until midnight. (That’s when the party’s over.) There’s a whole lot of bike love happening on Friday, March 9 at 7 pm at the Gala Gallery.

Where are the photos, man?
Yeah, I'm quick, and trying really hard not to accomplish anything useful today.
Thanks for the clarification, Steven. And I'm going to repost your note on bike parking here, in case someone doesn't run into it elsewhere on the Chainlink: "Hey folks, we're setting up bike parking tonight next door to the Polish Roman Catholic Union in a parking lot on the south side of Augusta just west of Milwaukee. Please do not lock up to the fence across the street from Gala Gallery. The housing project security guard will freak out on you/us."
And the cautionary note from notoriousDUG: "I am going to toss this up to again make mention of not locking to the fence across Milwaukee. I recently had two customers who had their bikes SEVERELY vandalized after locking up there while in the VFW; I am guessing it was our friendly security guard."
Admission is free. Cheap american beer is available. We might have a small selection of wine and craft brew. Beverages are essentially free; we can merely ask you donate a few dollars to help support West Town Bikes. You cannot bring your own alcohol into the gallery.
Looking forward to tonight's gala at the Gala. I see no mention of an admission charge (meaning, if I get all the way down there can I afford to get in?). Also, no mention of a brewery donating brewskis, so will anything better than canned PBR be for sale, or is this BYOB?
Entertainment should start 8ish, so Northsiders will be able to catch the whole show from puppets to DJ :)
I've proposed the Northside Critical Mass comes to this. But we won't arrive until around 8.
