Description

My first long ride of the season, last year, was to this location and was also in March, although a bit earlier.

Meeting point:

  • 9:00 AM at Clark and Lake CTA station to take the Blue line to Forest Park then ride the IPP to Aurora and drink and eat lunch at Two Brothers Roundhouse. We will leave no later than 9:15 on the Blue Line toward Forest Park
  • 10:30 AM at Forest Park Blue Line station
  • If you are riding all the way from the city, then please make sure you make one of the above meeting point.
  • Call/Text me if you're running behind

We'll bring back some brews and take the Metra back.

Bring water and snacks for the trip there and also maybe a jacket to keep you dry and warm.

Route:

The first choice is to take the Illinois Prairie Path.

The second choice of travel is to use a proposed paved route.

I'm in, if I am back in town by then.

Well, here's the proposed route: Proposed Route through Hwy. 59

Last year, I met three people who took this route going to Hop Juice Festival.

I'm working on an all paved route. Stay tuned. Some highway riding will be required.

Another suggestion is to train out to geneva, bike down the FRT (all paved) and bike back - about 20 miles. And Geneva has a pretty good Ale Hause owned by a good friend of Alan's. Can't emphasize enough how crappy the unpaved bits were last weekend :(

Taking the FRT is an option, but it won't be as long as going through IPP.

As long as the ground is hard then it should be passable. That's how it was last year as well.

Perhaps an alternative route?

I'm betting on hard packed ground because of the cold temperature this week and hoping that the temperature won't be too warm before and then.

Owen, Alan, Michael, and I rode much of the IPP yesterday and the gypsum gravel bits were a mess. Really hard slog. I wanna' go but we should keep an eye on the drying process starting Wednesday :)
