Description

Join British Bicycles of Chicago to celebrate the 407th anniversary of the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot.  How?  By spiffing ourselves up, riding our bikes and having a bonfire.

We will meander from Roscoe Village to Bridgeport,  pausing at Happy Village and Skylark to refresh ourselves and chat. The ride will be capped off with a roaring bonfire at Bubbly Dynamics, thanks to Mr. Owen Lloyd.

One of the best loved BBC rides, it promises a scenic route, great riding companions, snappy dressers and a fire hot enough to melt glass.

Break out your finest winter clothing, strap a log to your bike rack and fill your flask.  A golden autumn day awaits you and your bicycle.  BYOM (marshmallows).

Come earlier and enjoy lunch if you like ~

Departure from Four Moon Tavern will be at 1:30 pm; Skylark is cash only and you will need photo identification to enter.

A little background from our sister org across the waters-

Guy Fawkes: The man behind the ride...

Sketch of Guy Fawkes
  • Guy Fawkes was among a group of disaffected Catholics who, in 1605, plotted to blow up the House of Lords in a bid to kill King James I
  • Although born into a Protestant family, Fawkes later converted and by 21 was in Europe fighting for Catholic Spain in the Eighty Years War
  • In 1603, petitioned Spain's King Philip III to support a rebellion against the "heretic" English king - but was turned down
  • Fawkes was later approached to join the Gunpowder Plot - his role was to source and ignite the barrels
  • The plot was foiled when Fawkes was arrested under the Lords on 4 November 1605. He was tortured for two days and later executed

How long will you all be at Four Moon before leaving for Bridgeport?

Ash: as long as you are prepared to run the risk of being tossed on the fire along with the effigy of guy Fawkes!

I'm having a maternity tweed wear crisis. Would you still begrudgingly accept me if I'm unable to find anything by Saturday?

One week left to prepare!

* Check clothing for moth damage

* Reattach loose buttons

* Shine shoes

* Rinse out flask or thermos

* Find a piece of wood for the fire

A blustery day will be provided at no extra charge.  Bring your rosy cheeks.

~No other ride in Chicago includes an effigy~

It's been a quiet week along Lake Michigan. Wait, no it hasn't ! BTW, have you ever noticed that da' Square Wheelman (Garth), looks like the guys on Mythbusters ? And, they recently did a few shows where they oufiited a truck with square wheels ? A coincidence ?
