Description

Join British Bicycles of Chicago to celebrate the 407th anniversary of the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot.  How?  By spiffing ourselves up, riding our bikes and having a bonfire.

We will meander from Roscoe Village to Bridgeport,  pausing at Happy Village and Skylark to refresh ourselves and chat. The ride will be capped off with a roaring bonfire at Bubbly Dynamics, thanks to Mr. Owen Lloyd.

One of the best loved BBC rides, it promises a scenic route, great riding companions, snappy dressers and a fire hot enough to melt glass.

Break out your finest winter clothing, strap a log to your bike rack and fill your flask.  A golden autumn day awaits you and your bicycle.  BYOM (marshmallows).

Come earlier and enjoy lunch if you like ~

Departure from Four Moon Tavern will be at 1:30 pm; Skylark is cash only and you will need photo identification to enter.

13 hours left.

Who will bring the Best Decorated Log?

Who will be anointed as Snappiest Dressers?

Who will make us swoon over the Most Beautiful Bike?

Mend your socks, get out the brilliantine, rinse out your unmentionables and fill your flask.  Today we roll!

Everyone remember to thank two fine gents tomorrow:

Pirogi John, not only for planning and leading a wonderful bumble, but for purchasing a large quantity of combustibles for the night's entertainment and ...

2. Sir Alan for his wonderful artistic efforts in creating the evening's gallant golam!

Is 40 enough?

Wish I could be there, but I'll be in Toronto by the time the ride starts.  Wishing you all a lovely time.  Cheers!

T'will be warm tomorrow and warmer still near the blaze but here's a little ditty to set the ton! If anyone can bring copies, they'll be much, much appreciated ...

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
the Gunpowder Treason and Plot,

I see no reason why Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, t’was his intent to blow up King and Parliament.

Three score barrels were laid below to prove old England’s overthrow;
By God’s mercy he was catch’d with a dark lantern and lighted match.

Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

Hip hip hoorah!

A penny loaf to feed the Pope
A farthing o’ cheese to choke him.

A pint of beer to rinse it down.
A faggot of sticks to burn him.

Burn him in a tub of tar.
Burn him like a blazing star.

Burn his body from his head.
Then we’ll say ol’ Pope is dead.

Hip hip hoorah!
Hip hip hoorah hoorah!

I wish I could see a route map without downloading or registering for anything. I guess I'll have to follow the crowd.
