Description

Join British Bicycles of Chicago to celebrate the 407th anniversary of the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot.  How?  By spiffing ourselves up, riding our bikes and having a bonfire.

We will meander from Roscoe Village to Bridgeport,  pausing at Happy Village and Skylark to refresh ourselves and chat. The ride will be capped off with a roaring bonfire at Bubbly Dynamics, thanks to Mr. Owen Lloyd.

One of the best loved BBC rides, it promises a scenic route, great riding companions, snappy dressers and a fire hot enough to melt glass.

Break out your finest winter clothing, strap a log to your bike rack and fill your flask.  A golden autumn day awaits you and your bicycle.  BYOM (marshmallows).

Come earlier and enjoy lunch if you like ~

Departure from Four Moon Tavern will be at 1:30 pm; Skylark is cash only and you will need photo identification to enter.

On other creative fronts, Doty, whose Let's Go Ride a Bike blog, is the ultimate on fantastic fashion sense, rode with us. She also did us the honour of taking some awesome (as usual) snaps of both ladies and gents - inlcuding these two newly-weds!

Oops, corrections to my Toys for Tots post. The website is toyridechicago.com, not rides. Mystic Celt is in Southport, not Bridgeport.

What an AWESOME ride with bar stops and a bonfire burning Lance Armstrong's character. I'm not sure where to put this but as long as I'm here I'd like to invite all chainlink members to the 10th annual Amlings Toys for Tots ride. Details at toyrideschicago.com I'm sure Joe won't mind. This is his ride and he is the owner of Amlings Cycles in Niles who specializes in recumbant bikes and trikes. The ride will start at Amlings on the west side of Milwaukee Ave. about one block north of Oakton Ave. in Niles (my neighborhood) and will end at Mystic Celt in Bridgeport with a free breakfast before he opens for business. This ride will be police escorted and traffic will be stopped for us so we can legally run red lights and stop signs (whoopee). You must register so Joe knows how many trailers to assemble and the bar knows how much food to prepare and bring one new unopened toy or game. These items will be given to underprivilaged children so it is best to avoid toys/games that require batteries. Stuffed animals are also frowned upon. This is the bicycle version of the infamous Toys for Tots motorcycle run. Here are pictures of me at the bar and on the ride with my trusty reliable 2002 Huffy Ocala 6 speed Special Edition Beach Cruiser which I am very fond of. The best thing about it is that basically nobody will steal a bike with no resale value because nobody except for a fool like me would buy a used 10 year old Department store $100 bike. Truly a jolly good roll! Double points to John for leading, Alan for Guying, Charlie for dragging, and all the wonderfully dressed and quaffed ladies (and gents) who rode!  Many, many thanks to all!

Our route yesterday, including our ride up from Bridgeport to the start at the Four Moon Tavern, punctuated by sheltering from the rain at Navy Pier and the 'shell' near Montrose Harbour ...
