Sunday Parkways, our version of Ciclovia will be Oct. 26 from Garfield Park to Little Village.Think people pouring into the streets to bike, run, walk, and dance. http://www.streetfilms.org/archives/ciclovia-express-version/
Sunday Parkways could never happen without your volunteer support! It is important we recruit great volunteers because we hope to continue this event. just imagine you can proudly talk about how you volunteered the very first year of Sunday Parkways!
This Sunday Parkways event route connects the neighborhoods of Garfield park, North Lawndale and Little Village, along Chicago’s boulevard system. Learn more about the event at www.biketraffic.org/sundayparkways
This great idea has traveled all over the world. From Bogota Colombia (insert video link) all the way to Chicago New York has recently adopted it and you can even meet a few of their volunteers here: http://www.streetfilms.org/archives/summer-streets-2008-nyc/
Grab a friend or a group and join us to make this event safe and fun for everyone. Volunteers are needed 7:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on October 26th.
All volunteers are required to attend one orientation session and will receive a Sunday Parkways T-shirt and snacks.
Course Marshal volunteers work in teams at intersections along the route. You will check in at a centralized location to gather information, a T-shirt, and other supplies and proceed to your intersection. There, you put barricades in place, hold instructional signage, protect participants’ safety and cheer everyone on. Second shift volunteers will also check in at a centralized location for instructions and monitor the intersection. After the event you will gather the materials return to your meeting point to return all supplies.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring a snack, bicycle (or skates, scooters, etc.), wear comfortable shoes, and clothing appropriate for the weather.
