Join us for 13th annual Perimeter Ride of Chicago!
Buckingham Fountain. Ride meets at 8 am and promply leaves at 8:30 am
This is a moderately paced ride so leave your scorcher at home.
We will be meeting at the Buckingham Fountain and head south, then west, then north, then east and finally south again encompassing the vast perimeter of one of the greatest cities in the world, Chicago!
This is a (near) century! Bring a bike that is in good working order and has decent tires on it, the south and west sides have some glass issues that are beyond our control. Bring plenty of water and clothing that you can layer up with when the sun goes down. Finally bring cash for the food stops. This ride ends after dark. If you are planning to ride the whole thing, PLEASE ALSO BRING LIGHTS.

Hi everybody...I'm the person who had trouble keeping up, and wound up taking the Metra home from 103rd St. I've had many people messaging me asking if I got home safe, and if I'm OK. The answer to both is YES! One more thing. I am so grateful for all the help I received while I was struggling on the ride. From all the folks who stayed back with me to help me and make sure I was OK, to the folks who helped me make it to the train on time. And a special thanks to my friend Maria Mastalerz, who got on the train with me and made sure I got home OK. And finally to our leaders David and Kevin, who stayed on top of my situation at all times and made sure I was being taken care of. Thanks to you all!
To the organizers - David of the North (David606xx), Chuck a Muck, Andronymous, Kevin C, and the cast of dozens...Bravo!
Thank you for sheep herding us around the best city on this planet.
It was a pleasure riding with everyone. I'm looking forward to next year’s adventure.
We did a group shot at the beginning, did anyone post it yet?
(".US" KC, no worries, better URL coming soon)
I too would welcome a fresh full GMap of the route as planned.
Andronymous plotted the "as ridden" route with MassUp.com. It can be found here.
Kevin & David:
Any chance you can post the Google Maps route?
Thanks!
Kevin, David and everyone who helped--my first perimeter ride (at least to Rainbo Cone) and had a great time. You made it so much fun. Thank you! And the weather seemed to clear, so I hope that those who continued on had a great ride.
Having now done both Perimeter Ride and RAGBRAI, I can say they are quite a bit alike, except the Perimeter Ride has a little less day-drinking and a lot less lycra. See you tomorrow!
We encourage worrying, Joe. It demonstrates that you're paying attention. Water should be adequate. We'll be going through City parks (with water fountains) south to about 126th Street. Lots of opportunity to get more water along the south leg. Argus Brewery has water. Rainbow Cone has water. Marquette Park has water. Oak Park has water (55 miles).
As far as food is concerned. I expect to bring little or no food. Lots of gas station-style cookie binges available. If anything, you'll need to save room for a banana split the size of your head at Rainbow Cone. When we're hungry, we get food. When we're thirsty, we get water. You'll be fine. I've never done RAGBRAI, but I imagine the Perimeter Ride is nothing like that.
Dang! I have to cancel! I was looking forward to this...but something came up.
