The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

PeaPod responded nicely to a Facebook message:

Me: One of your trucks blocking both Dearborn bike lanes a few minutes ago, driver nowhere in sight. Make sure they don't get in the habit.

PeaPod: Hi Andrew, thank you for bringing this to our attention and I apologize for the inconvenience. I have passed this along, including the picture, to the transportation manager for that area to further review. Thanks again!

I was riding in the bike lane Eastbound on Washington just past Canal, about 9:20 am today, when this bus cut across 2 lanes, cut me off, and stopped to unload passengers.

I reported this to the charter company, through the URL they so thoughtfully provided.

Thank you.  I didn't see an email address on their website and snail-mailed a written note to their corporate address.

I got a reply from the charter company indicating their driver received a reprimand, and "wouldn't be doing that again."

Yeah, well, until a venue asks him to drop passengers in a bike lane.

I received a letter from the Lamers Safety Director acknowledging my report and that the driver assured him he will not make the same mistake again, no matter where passengers request to be unloaded.

Stopping in the bike lane was less of a concern to me that the driver's cutting across lanes and cutting in front of me (like a right hook except he was moving to the curb and not actually making a full right turn), so I wrote back to thank him for his response and clarified that aspect of  my original complaint.

Can we wheatpaste this image all over town or are you maintaining the copyright?  Sorry I only saw it now!

Excellent idea! I like the peds' hands on the hips posture for added 'annoyance' affect.

At Dearborn between Wacker & Lake

Saw a guy jogging up the Dearborn lane this morning like he was on the LFT.
