The Chainlink

You blew the red light east bound on Lawrence at Damen at 5:26 pm this evening.

There was enough time for the biker in front of me to make it half way into the intersection, northbound on Damen, before you came whizzing past my front wheel.

I yelled "You're an idiot!" at your big haired chick, self, and you looked back at me. I meant it!

I woulda testified for any of the cars, that managed to not kill you, if they had.

Keep riding like a tard!

love,

gabe

Witness bad behavior during your commute? Feel free to post. Maybe that lovely human can read it and think they are famous. Maybe you can also inspire the whole generation of kids to shower but we can start with small things.

Riding home tonight from Target, westbound on Logan, a car passed me inches away while the driver yelled that I do not belong on the boulevard. He then stopped in front of me, got out, and continued his screaming tirade about it being illegal to bike on the boulevard. When I read his plate out loud and said I would call the police, he claimed to be an officer (he was not in uniform or in a marked car). He left when I dialed 911 and started making a report.

The whole thing really freaked me out. Thanks to the guy in the black car (Prius?) who was stopped behind me, and circled back to check if I was okay while I was on hold with 311 afterwards - very kind of you.

What a fantastic night for riding!!

You: Amazing weather to and from work

Me: enjoying every minute of it

I hope our paths cross again sooner than later!

Where do people get these ideas??

I think it usually goes like this: "I don't like you and I don't like what you're doing, and I don't think you should be allowed to do it, so I'm going to just tell you that you can't. No, wait, better to scream at you."

Heh... on the Jackson lane I never see more than 1 or 2 other bikes going from Loomis to Clinton.

I saw several Divvy bikes. Maybe they will be successful. Ridiculously small rear lights though.

...It's just so much traffic on the bike lanes nowadays that I have to just keep out of them to get somewhere fast...

To the Divvy biker in the SB Dearborn PBL, turning east onto Lake around 7:00am this morning:

Everything about the situation absolutely read as if you were about to turn left directly in front of the oncoming/northbound cars that had the green light. I'm sure you were planning to stop in the green turn box (as you did), but everything about your velocity suggested otherwise. The cab driver was right to honk and you overreacted by screaming obscenities at him.

What is the deal with people using the sidewalk on North Ave between Elston and Kingsbury? Almost every AM and PM when walking to and from the office I have someone riding their bike, sometimes at road speed, down the sidewalk. Icing on the cake, a few get pissed at me for calling them out and or being in the way.

Get on the road!

Special shout out to the young fella on the yellow fixie that got close enough we connected while I was walking across the street. You may love me but I am not a fan of you. Oh and if you are going to make a smart ass remark don't do it to someone from your hood. when you are a block away from your house... I know where you live now.

Im not giving excuses for sidewalk riding but that section blows for cyclists just east of the bridge. I haven't been in that area for a while and try to avoid it as much as possible. In my experience cars really don't give a damn about cyclists in that area.

That section of North has been crap in a car let alone on a bike but all the development that's turned it into a little Schaumburg has just made it worse as the years go by.

Bingo. I used to ride through there, just taking the lane and riding at least 20mph, but it's gotten terrible in the last few years. It'd be awesome if some major east-west bike route could be built around that area. Webster is okay, but North Ave and Division both suck if you need to be further south.

Pedestrians will walk out in the crosswalk expecting or demanding vehicles stop w/out so much as a flinch but a cyclist approaching the crosswalk slowing/stopping at a blistering 3mph warrants a stop, stare, words exchanged...we see cars, lights, babies, old ladies...Relax!
