Watch for (much-needed) resurfacing on Clark thru Andersonville (near Foster, I think). Rough, grooved surface, lane closure, uneven pavement etc.  

Terribly sorry... Biking through this afternoon, I realized, my mental-map of my commute was all off. It was on SB southport near Addison. Which is now apparently complete and a really smooth yride. I'm new to the city and should stop using "near the Walgreens" as my mental landmark.

Yesterday I rode Southport from Wellington to Grace. The northbound lane is in lovely condition there. Where it's been repaved, the striping was just finished.

This morning I rode some south side bike lanes.  This morning King Drive had a closure in the middle of Washington Park. Not sure if that's a quick project or a longer one. Easy enough to detour through the park, except for the challenges of crossing Garfield.

Central Park is getting sewer work on the southbound side between Diversey and Fullerton, and contains, variously, rough concrete, gravel, or soft patch.

Wells Street Southbound from Division--major repaving under way.

Just to reiterate David of the North's post: Wells from Division to Chicago is completely ripped out, rough grooved surface. Men with big machinery actively working on it this morning. Avoid for now.

Northbound Franklin to Walton to Orleans to Division to Sedgwick to Lincoln is a good alternative. Somehow I am not a big fan of it southbound.

A little further south at Central Park & Wabansia, there's construction that has rendered the intersection extremely hazardous.  Temp patch job is wavier than the Lake on a really windy day; take it slow to avoid a fall and keep a sharp eye out for swerving cars dipping into oncoming traffic lane as they try to avoid bottoming out while crossing the intersection.

The bike lane on Grand Avenue between N. St Claire and Michigan Avenue is closed.  The road is down to two lanes.  Appears to be long term, there are concrete barricades in place.   Much more congestion going under the Michigan Avenue bridge now and some very cranky drivers.   Look for trucks parked under the Michigan Avenue bridge in the bike lane also.  This has become a dangerous route in the morning.

It's gonna be sweet when it's done, but in the meantime I'm using Sedgewick to Orleans. Interesting stretch of the city, too--tiny little bit of public housing nestled into super-expensive condoland. Bike commuting as sociology, right?

On my train ride home this evening, I saw something good. Vincennes in the area around 89th Street has been ground down for repaving. With the new pavement comes.... bike lanes. Yeah!

Wells saw a lot action today. The stretch from Division is almost done. And i would expect Division to North to be done before the 4th if they keep up the speed.

Sorry David, your sociology class will come to an end soon. Back to the white upperclass people in luxury automobiles.
