Saw Sharon Van Etten open up for Nick Cave last night. She left us wanting more, so I'm glad to hear about her show at Millennium Park.

The Handsome Family are amazing. If you are into super weird old time country (think Louvin Brothers on acid) you should attend this show. Their lyrics are astonishing, the music, superb. The jazz lineup has also been announced.  Lots of good stuff for free. It reminds me of my cousin's observation when we saw Yes at the Taste of Chicago a few years ago.  He stood up, surveyed the scene and exclaimed, "my favorite band at my favorite price."

Glen, Lisa, and Hothouse Flowers frontman Liam O (three of the best voices on the planet IMO) set up and play in the street for charity.

I saw Glen with Lisa opening at The Vic last year and it was one of the best concerts I've ever attended.

Wow, free!

Hansard is one of the few folks I actually paid to buy his stuff on CD in the last decade.  Free in concert?  I think, maybe, sorta, perhaps, almost, proximately, virtually, I could loosely like this.

I was at that Millenium show too and I couldn't agree more.  I was so impressed with the power one guy with his guitar could have over a crowd.  I stuck around for the "main" act and couldn't understand why Hansard was the opener.  I saw many people leaving after his set.

Also looking forward to seeing Glen. I missed the Vic show last year, and the only time I've seen him play was opening for Eddie Vedder at the Chicago Theater. I love Pearl Jam and EV, but they still attract an inordinate amount of loud, rude fans. Glen even called a heckler out at one point.

Here's a cool story with video I came across recently of a Kevin Pollack talk show where Glen talks about meeting one of his idols, Van Morrison

Love Brokeback and heard great things about DL's show here (at Old Town School) last night from MPIT = music people I trust. I might change plans and head down.
