The Chainlink

On the East bound side there is no sidewalk for a portion of the lane, but there is a sidewalk on the other side of the street.  Sometimes there's pedestrians there; this morning it was a person with a water bottle getting their power walking in.

I'm I correct in thinking that she should have been on the other side of the street, on the sidewalk?  Or are pedestrians welcome in the protected lane?

... and what's the legality of lance-mounted tasers?  Because I totally want one now.  Ugh.

I can deal with one person on the bike lane - I'm okay with it.  I just announced that I'm on their left or right.

However, what kills me are groups walking on the bike lane, they will usually walk two to three abreast leaving you nowhere to ride but outside the bike lane.  I also get a chuckle when I'm riding east bound on Kinzie and encounter a walker walking towards me - and they are the one who is giving me a dirty look as if I was on the wrong side or have done something wrong.

No way they are allowed in the bike lane. They think it's the lake front path or something, which is multiuse. When I see peds in the bike lane, I like to buzz them close. And when I say close, I mean at full speed practically brushing them as I fly by.

If the city doesn't manage the peds in the bike lane problem, all the LFP problems (bikes vs ped accidents) will happen in the bike lanes.

I do like bike lanes but there many times I feel safer outside the bike lanes.

Then you have to worry about runners that for some reason don't use the sidewalks and run down the street.

That's not a really asshole thing to do at all...

I encountered a particularly brazen/clueless (pick one) ped today at the Wells end of the lane, salmoning dead center down the lane. Looking right at me, when he wasn't idly looking off to the side as I approached him at 15mph.

Hey, was that you I heard on Kinzie just before 6 tonight, coming up behind a pedestrian? Whoever it was made my night!!!! HILARIOUS!

I find screaming "NO BRAKES. AAGHHHHHH! LOOK OUT" really loud tends to get peoples attention and scare the shit out of them, hopefully enough to not be in the bike lane, or if they are, at least watch the fuck out.

How do you feel when a car does that to a ped?

If the ped is running in the street or is somewhere they shouldn't be, then I couldn't care less...

The public streets are for everyone -not just cars.

That's what 118dB horns mounted in front of the radiator are for.  You don't have to get close but if someone's in the way it's hard to ignore.

+1

Self-entitled and stupidly aggressive pretty much typifies H. Sapiens.   Some are worse than others.

Modern man has a lot more in common with the chimpanzee than the bonobo.

I'll admit that I don't really know you, but from the image you project online you come off as very self entitled and stupidly aggressive. Why anyone would think that deliberately ridding in a dangerous manner just to scare someone they don't like is a good idea is beyond me. I hope when you inevitably cause a crash that the injuries to all parties are minor.

I'm honestly not bothered by a lone pedestrian walking in a straight line to the edge of the east bound lane. I feel bad for them that they've been squeezed out by bad road design. Can you think of any other street in River North that doesn't have sidewalks on both sides and cross walks that are as completely disregarded as Kinzie? It seems like a terrible street to be a pedestrian on. Large groups walking more than one abreast, or pedestrians in the west bound lane annoy me, but the majority of pedestrians I see are in the east bound lane where they have no where to go and walking reasonably.
